In this science-fiction story, Kim Stanley Robinson details a not-so-distant future in which climate change hits some areas of the globe catastrophically, and so the nations respond with equally drastic measures. Robinson hails himself a reporter; “these aren’t my ideas; these are the world’s ideas”. Drawing on real solutions proposed by real scientists, the novel occupies a peculiar spot between fiction and non-fiction. Alongside this scientific and political perspective, the story is driven by individuals learning to cope with climate change to create a very impactful narrative.
